Description The hollow regatta boats "saintois" result from the traditional fishing sailing boats in Guadeloupe. The fishermen stuffed them with rocks to go and sail at sea, most of the time alone. Before the 90s, there were regattas with another type of boat, deck boats which were progressively equipped in a modern way, and caused a discouraging fitting out race. Then, a navy carpenter bets that he can revive traditional building, and he makes a replica of the fishing boats as they were before the motorization. A winning bet, since other building sites do the same. Since 1991, the clubs take the decision to give up the deck boats, and develop the "saintois"-like boats. |
