Description Who is a naval officer ? The naval officers, under the captain's authority, coordinate the coastal canadian Guard ships'operations, in activities such as supporting the commercial navigation, the fishing and sailing industry, in the canadian sea (escort of the ships in the Arctic ice sheet, gulf and Saint-Laurent river; research and safety, beaconing, sounding activities). The canadian ships also support the activities of scientific missions, of surveillances of fishing and maritime safety. The naval officers must know the sailing techniques as well as the functioning of all the navigation equipments in order to manoeuvre in different situations in a secure way. His responsibilities are linked to his rank inside the navigation team and consist of the responsibility of the navigation, the activities of loading and unloading, the management of the human resources of the ship, the safety of the gangways, and when applicable of the seamen on the deck. The captain has the entire responsibility of the ship. The fully-licensed captain is the highest rank in the navigation world. |
